The final Limousin premier bull sale of 2014 took place on bank holiday Monday 27 October at Roscrea Mart. A clearance rate of 70% was achieved, with an average price of €3,264 per head.

The clearance rate was up 13% from the May premier sale, with a corresponding €463 increase in the average price.

Judge for this sale was Michael Priestley of the renowned Brontemoor herd based in Cracrop Farm, Brampton, Cumbria.

Breed secretary Paul Sykes of the Irish Limousin Cattle Society said after the sale: “On offer here today was a catalogue of 139 bulls from 64 different sires. The clearance rate was up from last year’s sale at this venue.”

The top price on the day was €9,400 for junior champion Asheburn Intrepid Et. This 13-month-old Wilodge Cerberus son was bred by Frank and David Byrne, Co Kildare.

Reserve senior champion was awarded to Connell Bros, Oldcastle, Co Meath, for their April 2013-born Baileys Iain. A final bid of €8,000 secured the bull for the Llwynybrain herd, Powys, Wales.

Senior champion Faughill Iceman sold for €7,100. He is a March 2013-born Ampertaine Commander son.

Ballinascraw Imperial 2 bred by John and Stephen Lynch, Co Longford, was sold for €6,200 to Owain Llyr, Wern Herd, Ruthin, Wales.

Mistic Isotop, son of Bavardage, sold for €5,400. He was bred by Frank Buckley, Co Cork. Joseph Rafferty, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, was the purchaser.

Reserve junior champion Drummin Iceman ET sold for €5,300 for John McInerney, Co Clare. Alan Geary, Co Armagh, was the purchaser.

Liam Lavelle, Co Mayo, got €4,700 for Ardoone Inferno, who was bought by Michael Langan, Co Kildare.

Ballyline Iggie sold for €4,600, bred by Bertie Mannion, Co Roscommon. The buyer was Brian Murphy, Co Down. Liam also got €4,400 for Ardoone Ithacus Et, which was sold to Michael Langan.

Ardlea Irma made €4,300 for Daniel Tynan, Co Laois. Brian Hand, Co Roscommon, was the purchaser.

Michael Oliver, Co Mayo, got €4,200 for Lisnacrann Innocent, which was bought by Patrick Kealy, Co Westmeath.

Mistic Inferno Et from the Cork-based herd of Frank Buckley sold for €4,000 to Norman Richardson, Co Leitrim.

Kilcloon Iceman also sold for €4,000 for Seamus Goggin, Co Kildare. The purchaser was Pat Whelan, Co Carlow.

Mount Scott Irwin 2 made €4,000 – DJ Healy, Co Cork, was the purchaser.

Bobby Jones, Co Dublin, brought forward three full brothers for sale. These bulls are by Wilodge Cerberus and out of the Cesar daughter Bremore Fab.

Top call of €3,800 went to the second prize winner Bremore Impish Et, who was sold to Liam Mooney. The second bull, Bremore Impressive Et, made €3,050.

He was bought by Con Hurley, Co Limerick. Bremore Imp Et, the third of the brothers, sold to Edward Hennessy, Co Kilkenny, for €2,500.

John McAlister, Stirlingshire, secured Mullary Infinite for €3,600. He was bred in Co Louth by Michael Molloy.

Tomriland Ike Et sold for €3,500 for Noel Kenny, Co Wicklow – Gerry Ryan, Aughrim, Co Wicklow was the purchaser.

Francis Stynes, Co Kildare, paid €3,400 for Derrygullinane Indiana, bred by John Joseph Walsh, Co Mayo.

Ollie Callanan, Co Galway, purchased Coolrain Iron 1 Mchawk for €3,400. He was bred by Geroid and Padraic Kennedy, Co Laois.

Moohane Imperial, a 15-month-old Ampertaine Commander son, sold for €3,300 for John Meehan, Co Clare. Imperial heads to suckler farmer Denis Gowing, Co Laois.

Five bulls reached €3,100 – Derrygullinane Iverk for John Joseph Walsh, bought by Denis Tierney, Nenagh, Co Tipperary; Sean Garrett, Co Mayo, received the same figure from Denis Barry, Co Cork, for Ammaghmore Iron Man; Patrick Lucey, Co Cork, paid €3,100 for Derrygullinane Icon from the herd of John Joseph Walsh, Co Mayo; Bellingham Ice also made €3,100 for Frances McKernan, Co Louth (he was snapped up by Thomas Hogan, Co Tipperary); and Michael Hester, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, had the final bull at €3,100, Meelickaduff Ipod, and Harry Deacon, Co Wexford, was the successful bidder.
