Traditional Irish music is definitely not standing still - bands and musicians are constantly bringing something new to the scene.

The latest single from Tipperary-based neo-trad band Strings & Things is no different.

A dark and melodic tune, Fuaim Gathering is to be released online on Friday. It is the second single from their upcoming album The Unsolicited Dance.

Banjo player Seán Mongey explains that all of the songs on the new album are inspired by a music festival that never happened.

“The tunes were inspired by a music festival being organised by some friends of ours that was set to take pace in summer 2017. It was called Fuaim Gathering and they spent months leading up to it preparing and building.”

On the morning of the festival, it was cancelled due to licencing issues.

Strings & Things blend genres of rock, folk, pop and trad to create their sound.

The band consists of James O’Meara Ryan on guitar and vocals; Eoin Shelly on percussion and vocals; Sean Mongey on banjo, mandolin, whistle and backing vocals; and Eoin Salmon on bass.
