CAFRE winter feed meetings

CAFRE has organised a series of farmer meetings in the west and north of NI to provide guidance on farmers on how best to manage feeding over the coming months.

Senior technologists will explain how to assess fodder stocks and review the options to reduce stock or replacing fodder with alternative feeds.

A vet will outline the likely health and welfare issues that may arise and the best way to prevent these, while Rural Support will also be present to outline the services and support they can provide to farmers. The meetings will take place at 7.30pm at the following venues:

  • Omagh, Silverbirch Hotel, Monday 20 November.
  • Enniskillen Campus, CAFRE, Thursday 23 November.
  • Coleraine, Lodge Hotel, Tuesday 28 November.
  • Business planning seminars

  • Greenmount Campus, Antrim on Tuesday 28 November.
  • Enniskillen Campus on Wednesday 29 November.

The “ABP Angus Youth Challenge” is open to groups of 14- to 16-year-olds, with three finalist teams awarded five AA calves each at next year’s Balmoral Show.

The teams will rear their calves through to finishing and fully benefit from the net profit at sale of the calves to ABP. An additional £1,000 cash prize will be awarded to one overall winning team.

Entries will be accepted from teams of two to five individuals in years 11 and 12 or aged 14 to 16. Teams can choose to represent a local school, club or society. Shortlisting will be based on producing a short video followed by interview.
