Gardaí in Roscommon are investigating after around 1,000 litres of green diesel was stolen from a farmer in recent weeks.
Garda crime prevention officer for Roscommon and Longford Damian Bartley has said that on 14 April 2026, a Roscommon farmer in his mid-50s reported the theft from his yard to gardaí.
This comes as the price of fuel including agri diesel has risen sharply since the beginning of the conflict between Iran and the US.

Bartley said that An Garda Síochána has developed a list of the tips for the public to help prevent the theft of stored fuel, including agri diesel and kerosene home heating oil:
Whether domestic or commercial, above-ground oil tanks and mobile fuel bowsers are most at risk of fuel theft.
Installing alarms, anti-siphoning devices, signage, security lighting and CCTV can prevent and disrupt fuel thieves.
Commercial premises should implement fuel management systems to monitor fuel levels.
Fuel tanks should be kept visible, as remote tanks are more at risk.
Restrict access to fuel by keeping gates closed and locked when not in use.
Vehicles should be kept secured with use of fuel tank cap locks and anti-siphoning devices on vehicles and machinery.
