One of the most iconic weekends on the Macra calendar is almost here, as the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival returns to Athboy, Co Meath, from 29 May to 1 June for what promises to be another unforgettable June bank holiday celebration.
Organised by Meath Macra in partnership with the Athboy community, the festival combines music, entertainment and plenty of craic, culminating in the crowning of the 2026 Blue Jean Country Queen.
This year, 22 contestants will travel to Athboy for a packed weekend of activities. Alongside representatives from Macra counties and regions across Ireland, the festival will also welcome a contestant from France and one from the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster, adding an international flavour to the event.
The contestants will stay with local host families and take part in a host of activities, including karaoke, fancy dress football and the ever-popular pub crawl. The winning queen will be crowned at the Gala Banquet on Sunday night and will receive €1,000 sponsored by Le Chéile Credit Union, along with a sash, tiara and perpetual trophy.
The weekend kicks off on Friday evening with the official opening at the Darnley Lodge Hotel.

Saturday features the street market, barbecue and karaoke, before the queens take to the stage for interviews with broadcaster Maura Fay. Guests will then dance the night away to music from The Rurals.
Sunday’s Lark in the Park promises fun for all ages, with live music, food stalls, a pet farm, children’s entertainment and the popular mini-tractor run. That night, the festival reaches its climax as the 2026 Blue Jean Country Queen is crowned, followed by celebrations with The Blarneys.
Reflecting on her year as reigning queen, Amy Coffey said: “The Blue Jean Country Queen has truly given me friends and memories for life.” Her advice to this year’s contestants is simple: “Enjoy every second… and most importantly, be yourself.”
Festival chair Rachel Duffy of Wilkinstown Macra praised the support of the local community, noting that “the people of Athboy really love this festival”.
For generations of Macra members, the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival has been a highlight of the year. If you’re looking for a weekend of fun, friendship and unforgettable memories, Athboy is the place to be this June bank holiday weekend.
