A meeting of the board of Bord Bia has been arranged for Thursday 22 January amid calls for the resignation of chair Larry Murrin.

A spokesperson for Bord Bia told the Irish Farmers Journal that: “Over the last 24 hours, Bord Bia chairman, Larry Murrin, has been in dialogue with members of the board.

“A meeting of the board has been called for Thursday 22nd.”

Murrin is CEO of Dawn Farm Foods, which this week told the Irish Farmers Journal that while Irish, EU and UK product accounted for 99% of the company’s beef supplies in 2025, “Brazilian beef accounted for the remaining 1%”.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sinn Féin’s agriculture spokesperson Martin Kenny TD said: “I don’t believe it is acceptable that the chair of Bord Bia Larry Murrin can remain in his position and if he is not prepared to resign, then I would call on the Minister for Agriculture to remove him from his position.”

The presidents of both the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) and Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) have also demanded an urgent response to the matter.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that IFA president Francie Gorman wrote to the chair of Bord Bia on Monday looking for the emergency board meeting to be held.

Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon said that “Mr Murrin had discharged his duties as chairman of Bord Bia in a satisfactory manner to date.”
