Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables have submitted plans for a major new wind farm in Co Tipperary, which includes 11 turbines reaching 200 metres in height.

The Strategic Infrastructure Development application for the proposed Littleton Wind Farm was lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála on 15 June by Littleton Wind Farm DAC, a 50:50 joint venture between the two renewable energy companies.

The proposed development includes 11 wind turbines with an overall blade-tip height of up to 200m and a minimum setback distance of 800m from the nearest residential property.

According to the application, the wind farm layout remains unchanged from plans presented to local residents in September 2025.

The project also includes the upgrading of approximately 2.95km of existing internal roads and the construction of a further 15.45km of new access roads to facilitate the construction, operation and maintenance of the wind farm.

Public amenity use

Much of the internal road network is expected to be opened for public amenity use, including walking and cycling, once the wind farm becomes operational.

The planning application, together with the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR), Natura Impact Statement (NIS) and supporting documentation, will be available for public inspection over a seven-week period from June 22.

The Littleton Wind Farm forms part of a wider partnership between Bord na Móna and SSE Renewables, which aims to deliver up to 800MW of new onshore wind energy capacity across the Midlands. The proposed Tipperary project is among the first developments being advanced under the joint venture.
