The European Commission has sought applications from interested organisations, both public and private, to join its new expert group on policies targeted at improving farmer’s access to land.
The group is to come forward with advice, expertise and input to feed into new policy initiatives aimed at improving the regulations around land access.
It is to feed into a pilot project that will lay the groundwork for an EU farmland observatory that the commission hopes will shine a light on the EU’s land purchase and rental market.
The experts are to facilitate the exchange of different member states’ best practices in the area of access to land, land mobility services and alternative ownership transfer models.
Policy initiatives on getting farmers back onto abandoned farmland, the role of state-owned financial institutions that have enhanced access to farmland and any strategies that have managed to reduce land transaction costs will also feature on the group’s agenda.
Monitoring
Organisations applying should have proven expertise in farmland regulations, land ownership or leasing, land monitoring and improving transparency in land market.
The group will consist of up to 45 members whose terms have been planned for a period of four years.
Interested organisations may submit an application outlining their proposed representative to the group along with an account of their related experience before the deadline of 13 March.
