Several rural community groups from across Co Cork are gathering to protest outside Cork County Hall next Tuesday 24 June against what they call “completely unsuitable” locations for proposed solar farms, wind farms, and other energy-related developments.
The groups are uniting under one umbrella, which they are calling the ‘Cork Community Alliance for Change’ and will protest outside Cork County Hall from 9am.
The alliance includes the Inch Killeagh Preservation Group, which opposes a planned large-scale solar farm on the Browne family’s dairy farm near Youghal.
Its spokesperson Teresa Carey told the Irish Farmers Journal that the new alliance is calling for responsible planning, transparency, and respect for rural communities when it comes to development of solar and wind farms, battery storage facilities and high voltage cable routes.
Carey said that the alliance believes that “despite concerned residents and locals submitting valid, evidence-based objections, the Government and relevant authorities continue to ignore us”.
