The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA) has called on co-ops to maintain June’s milk prices for July deliveries.
The association’s dairy chair Noel Murphy said that international dairy markets have been stable, with minimal price movement over recent weeks.
“While some spot prices have softened slightly, overall market conditions remain stable and strong,” Murphy commented.
“There is no rational basis for any reduction in milk prices.”
The dairy chair referenced quotes for butter, skimmed milk powder and whole milk powder in the Netherlands as having held well over the past month, as well as the spot milk price in Italy, which stayed above 60c/l.
Murphy further said that an anticipated decline in EU year-on-year milk deliveries points towards milk supplies tightening across the continent.
“Given all these indicators, any suggestion of downward pressure on milk prices would be unjustified and out of sync with market realities,” he stated.
