I read with interest during the week that Donegal’s Clonmany Show is to put in a bid to host the World Shearing Championships in 2029. According to reports, Donegal County Council has agreed to back the Inishowen-based show’s bid for the prestigious competition.

The World Sheep Shearing Championships would see up to 10,000 people attend the event each day.

Of course, Donegal is the county with the most sheep in Ireland; over half a million, according to last year’s Sheep Census.

I wonder how many of those the world’s top shearers would get through in a weekend?
