Veterinary Ireland has announced Eoin Glynn as its new president at the association's annual conference and AGM in Kilkenny on Friday.
Glynn MVB is a mixed practice veterinary surgeon who owns Gorteen Acre Veterinary Clinic which is based in Athenry and Tuam in Co Galway.
He was presented on Friday with the official chain of office by outgoing president Jane Pigott, Millstreet, Co Cork.
Speaking at the conference, Glynn said that the work of a vet is not only important to animal health but human health also.
“Irish vets are committed to animal welfare, public health, and professional integrity. Their work contributes to the health of animals, people, and the environment.
“I have a vision of a Veterinary Ireland where every member feels valued, heard, and empowered to contribute; where we continue to be leaders in science, welfare, and ethics; where we never forget that our work, while sometimes challenging, is a privilege," he said.
Before studying veterinary medicine at University College Dublin, Glynn studied Horsemanship at Kildalton College, Kilkenny.
He remains actively involved in cattle and sheep farming and has competed successfully in showjumping to Grand Prix level, with winners at the RDS in both pony and young rider classes.
At this year's conference, Veterinary Ireland is marking 25 years since its foundation.
