A judge has imposed a five-month custodial sentence on a farmer over his failure to undertake TB testing of his cattle.
At a sitting of Roscommon District Court on Tuesday, Mr Malachy Francis Fallon of Mount Talbot, Co Roscommon, and Grange, Co Roscommon, pleaded guilty to 10 charges involving breaches of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 , the Animal Health and Welfare (Bovine Tuberculosis) Regulations 2015 and the Disposal of Carcases (Prohibition) Regulations 2015.
The judge convicted Mr Fallon on all 10 charges, a Department of Agriculture spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal.
He imposed a five-month custodial sentence in respect of one charge relating to the failure to undertake TB testing and two fines of €3,000 each in respect of two charges of failure to dispose of carcases off his land - the other seven charges were taken into consideration.
In addition, Judge James Faughnan granted a five-year disqualification order pursuant to Section 58 of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013, prohibiting Mr Fallon from having any livestock for that period.
