The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is looking for farmers to take part in research on ‘the provision of animal health and veterinary care services in Ireland’, where they can give their perspective on a variety of animal health challenges.
The Department has teamed up with the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) to undertake the research.
It will involve a series of projects and is set to be overseen by a steering committee, chaired by Joe O’Flaherty, chair of the Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Council and formerly of Animal Health Ireland.
A survey on ‘barriers to preventative herd health planning within the dairy sector in Ireland and potential levers for change’ will be sent to farmers over the coming weeks.
It aims to identify the challenges farmers face on animal health issues, such as, calf health, mastitis, biosecurity, TB, etc and what motivates how farmers manage them.
Invitations to complete the survey will be sent to farmers by SMS text message, where they can click the link to the ESRI’s online survey, which can be completed either via phone or laptop.
