Plans for a major 500ac solar farm in north Cork are moving forward. German-headquartered, ILOS Energy has secured a €143m finance facility to advance its new solar development in Ballyhea, Cork.
Working with its Irish partner Soleire Renewables, the company began construction of the 217MW solar farm in April, and progress is reported to be ahead of schedule. Soleire Renewables is headed by PJ McCarthy, who is also the CEO of the Renewable Gas Forum of Ireland and has spearheaded the development of anaerobic digestion in Ireland.
Spanning 500ac, the Ballyhea project will generate enough electricity to power approximately 39,000 homes once completed. The funding agreement was agreed with Danske Bank.
ILOS Energy is nearing completion of its similarly sized 217MW Erkina solar farm near Roscrea in Tipperary. The €130m project has begun energisation with EirGrid and is expected to start exporting power to the national grid shortly.
Waterford
The Cullenagh Solar Farm, being developed by Irish company Regnum Renewables, has received approval from Waterford County Council. The project, located near Hacketstown, will span approximately 107ac and is expected to have an export capacity of around 33MW.
A 10-year planning permission has been granted for the development.
Dublin-based Highfield Solar Limited has submitted an application for a 10-year planning permission to construct a solar farm near Navan, Co Meath. The proposed development will cover approximately 401ac across the townlands of Curraghtown, Veldonstown, Kentstown and Flemingstown.
