Tesco CEO Geoff Byrne has said that he thinks food inflation in Ireland has settled down at the moment, following rises in food prices last year.
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Byrne said 2025 was a big year for food inflation.
“As retailers we tried to hold it off as much as we could, but it was a big year for inflation,” he said.
The Tesco CEO said that it is uncertain what will happen with food inflation for the rest of 2026 due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“What’s happening geopolitically, the impact on fertiliser, etc, I think we all know that will have an impact, but it’s very difficult to tell what that will be at this stage,” he said.
