Two new clubs are creating vibrant spaces for young people to connect, make friends, and take part in activities that build skills, confidence, and community spirit.

Blackstairs Macra, Co Wexford

Blackstairs Macra is energising Kiltealy, Ballindaggin, and the surrounding area following its inaugural meeting earlier this month. Named after the mountain range that shapes the local landscape, the club has already attracted strong interest from 17 to 35-year-olds keen to get involved in social events, personal development, agricultural activities, and leadership opportunities.

Founding chairperson Gavin Breen expressed his delight at re-establishing Macra in the area, highlighting the local talent and energy the club hopes to nurture.

Supported by Wexford Macra and local community leaders, the club has already taken part in sports outings, community events, a mental health mass, and the county round of Impromptu Public Speaking, with a successful launch night marking a fantastic start for this lively new group.

Ballycoog Macra officially re-launched on 14 November and is quickly becoming a welcoming hub for young people in the area. Members are looking forward to enjoying social nights, sports, drama, public speaking, travel, and agricultural activities.

The club focuses on building leadership, confidence, and personal growth while strengthening local connections.

With support from parish groups, local farms, and schools, Ballycoog Macra is set to run a full calendar of work-shops, community projects, and social events.

The return of Macra to these areas shows the strength of rural youth networks along the east coast. Both clubs offer a place to learn, laugh, and connect with tradition and community.
