Further batches of chicken recalled from a range of supermarkets

Western Brand is recalling further batches of chicken products sold under several brands and own-brands, including Aldi, Western Brand, Inishella, Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Lidl, due to the presence of salmonella.

This follows a recall of other Western Brand chicken products on Tuesday under the brand Inishella and Lidl own-brand.

Additionally, Manor Farm recalled multiple chicken products on Tuesday which are sold in Aldi, Lidl, Dunnes Stores, SuperValu, Centra and Tesco due to salmonella.

Batches of 100% Irish chicken breast fillet products from Lidl were also recalled earlier in the week due to Salmonella.

Consumer advice

The Food Safety Authority (FSAI) said that some of the implicated batches are past their use-by dates. However, the products are suitable for home freezing.

Therefore, consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch.

The FSAI is advising consumers not to eat the implicated batches.

Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale by retailers.

Symptoms

Symptoms of salmonella usually develop between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours, the FSAI said.

Diarrhoea is the most common symptom, which can sometimes be bloody.

Other symptoms, such as fever, headache and abdominal cramps, may occur, typically lasting four to seven days.

The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness, which in some cases may require hospital admission.
