Blátnaid Gallagher has been selected as one of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) 100 women heroes for International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026.
Hailing from a farm in east Galway, Gallagher is the founder of the Galway Wool Co-op and she is also involved with the EU CAP network, the Farming for Nature initiative and the FLIARA project, an EU-funded project looking at women’s role in a more sustainable rural future.
She has been selected from more than 600 nominations across 131 countries.
Her dedication, leadership and achievements will be showcased across United Nations media channels and prominent events to advocate for gender equality in rural sectors.
A special awards ceremony will also take place as part of the World Food Forum in Rome in October to celebrate the 100 women heroes.
