Gardaí in Mayo have seized a Massey Ferguson tractor which had no insurance or tax.
The tax had expired over eight years ago and the driver admitted that they also did not hold a valid driving licence.
Mayo roads policing were carrying out a high-visibility checkpoint on the N59 in north Mayo on Thursday morning with the Road Safety Authority when they stopped the driver of the tractor.
'Sudden detour'
They stopped the “vehicle after the driver decided to take a sudden detour on seeing the roads policing checkpoint ahead,” gardaí said.
A check on the insurance database using active mobility technology showed that the vehicle was not insured.
Gardaí seized the tractor and said a court appearance is to follow.
The penalty for no insurance is a fine of up to €5,000 and/or six months' imprisonment, plus a two-year disqualification from driving.
