Gardaí have issued a public warning ahead of Saturday's Mercosur protest in Athlone which is expected to attract 10,000 people.
The protest will see a convoy of mainly tractors from the N61 Roscommon Road, along the N6, travelling eastbound from junction 12 to junction 10, and along the N55 towards the R916 to the Cornamaddy roundabout.
A march is then due to take place from junction 9 of the N6 along the R916 to the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS Athlone), followed by a rally and speeches at the college.
Gardaí have said that this will cause significant additional traffic and have asked members of the public to plan their journeys during this period to ensure to leave enough time for possible traffic disruptions.
Delays
Those visiting Athlone town, in particular the environs of TUS Athlone on Saturday have also been warned to be aware of potential traffic delays.

The route of the Independent Ireland anti-Mercosur protest on Saturday 10 January.
The additional traffic, parking and pedestrians are expected to last from early morning until the rally finishes in the afternoon.
Gardaí will continue to liaise with Westmeath County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to minimise disruption in the Athlone area on Saturday.
Keep up to date with the protest with the Irish Farmers Journal’s live blog on www.farmersjournal.ie from Saturday morning.
