An investigation has been launched by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) into a significant fish kill on the River Glyde in Co Louth.
A definite line of enquiry is currently being pursued and local authorities have been notified.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Tallanstown, with a number of different species of fish discovered dead, including adult and juvenile Atlantic salmon, eel, brown trout, pike and coarse fish.
A significant section of the river has been affected, with the estimated number of fish mortalities currently being assessed.
IFI fisheries environmental officers have been on site since Tuesday evening to investigate the incident.
Samples have been taken from the river and sent for laboratory analysis.
The IFI is urging the public to report instances of fish kills to its confidential 24/7 number on 0818 34 74 24.
