Ireland’s fittest farmer competition is back for 2025, this time with a fresh new format. The challenge has evolved into Ireland’s fittest farming pair, where duos will compete under the guidance of Davy Fitzgerald, GAA legend and coach from RTÉ’s Ireland’s Fittest Family.

Sponsors of the competition, Zurich, is also launching a brand-new contest called Ireland’s fittest sports club, inviting teams from across the country to show off their strength, speed and teamwork.

Both competitions are free to enter, with a combined prize fund of €7,500 up for grabs.

The same rules apply for both competitions: one member “hangs tough” while the other performs step-ups. The longer the first member can hang, the more time for step-ups. Clubs have been asked to send two representatives to take on a unique fitness challenge to be in with a chance of winning €5,000.

Meanwhile, the fittest farming pair can win €2,500 for their efforts.

The three-day event will see farmers and sports clubs from across the country battle it out in a fun, spectator-friendly challenge designed to highlight the importance of physical and mental health in farming and sport.

Davy Fitzgerald, Ireland’s Fittest Family coach, and manager of the Antrim senior hurling team, said: “I’m delighted to be back with Zurich this year overseeing the Ireland’s Fittest Farmer competition, which has become a real highlight at the Ploughing Championships.

“I’m especially excited about the new competition for sports clubs across Ireland. I encourage clubs to get involved, wear their club colours proudly and show us what they’re made of,” he added.

Entries have now closed, but for those wishing to view the competitions you can visit Zurich’s stand where the company will also host a full team of farm insurance, life and pensions experts available for one-on-one consultations.
