Jackie Cahill is set to become the new chair of the National Milk Agency following a meeting of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture on Monday 13 April.
Hailing from Tipperary, Cahill is a former Fianna Fáil TD and also held roles as chair of the Joint Committee on Agriculture, president of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association and chair of the National Dairy Council.
The previous chair, Denis Murphy, held the role since 1994.
Speaking ahead of the meeting of the committee on Monday, committee chair Deputy Aindrias Moynihan said: “Our committee looks forward to this initial engagement with chairperson designate Mr Cahill and to our future meetings with the National Milk Agency in order to continue to foster our well-established relationships with the organisation.
“We will take this opportunity to discuss with those attending the plans and strategies that they intend to bring to their positions, once appointed, and we will welcome their perspectives on the challenges they see facing them in the roles in the future.”
