Twenty-five years ago this week, the US came to a standstill after terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon near Washington DC.
That same week, Glanbia had organised a trip to the US for its directors to visit its whey and cheese facility in Gooding, Idaho.
The plan was to travel from Ireland to Idaho, stopping in New York on the way.
Michael Patten, who was director of communications for Glanbia at the time and was on the trip, was supposed to have breakfast on the morning of 11 September 2001 on top of the World Trade Centre in New York.
He joined us on this week’s Inside the Farmers Journal news podcast to tell us the story of how the group of Glanbia directors instead found themselves at the White House on that fateful morning on the back of a decision made by then-company CEO John Moloney.
