Maurice Brady has been elected as Irish Farmers’ Association’s (IFA’s) Ulster-north Leinster regional chair.

Brady, current chair of Cavan IFA, was elected on Tuesday 2 December at a count in the Irish Farm Centre, where he received 1,229 votes in favour of Kevin Sweeney’s 707.

Brady thanked everybody who turned out to vote in the election and said he looked forward to working for farmers in the region.

“The seven debates across the county executives [in the area] were a valuable exercise and allowed us to hear the views and concerns of farmers.

“I will bring those issues and challenges to the national officers’ committee when I take up the role,” he added.

IFA president Francie Gorman thanked the two candidates for putting themselves forward for election.

“It’s important that those who represent farmers are elected by farmers. They bring a perspective to the debate that others do not have.

“I look forward to working with Maurice Brady and I know he will represent the farmers in the region with commitment and diligence,” Gorman said.

Brady will begin his four-year term at the IFA AGM in 2026.
