The Irish Shorthorn Cattle Society is looking forward to another year at the National Ploughing Championships, and will be in attendance for the three days at this year’s event. The society’s marquee will be located at Stand 4, Row 1, Block 1 near the BLUE Car Park, where breeders old and new are welcome to drop by, browse a selection of Shorthorn cattle, and pick up plenty of literature on the breed.
A big highlight this year is the Raffle Heifer – a fantastic opportunity to win a top quality Shorthorn while supporting the work of the society. The prize heifer will be on show at the marquee throughout the three days, with council members on hand to talk through her pedigree and background. Tickets will be on sale for the full duration of the event, so make sure to call in to try your luck. It could be your chance to take home a heifer that would be a real asset to any herd.

Breed secretary Shauna Mulhall is looking forward to this year’s event: “The Ploughing never fails to deliver – breeders reconnecting, fresh ideas exchanged, and plenty of good conversation along the way. Our stand welcomes everyone: established Shorthorn breeders, those weighing up the breed for the first time, or anyone simply keen to see what sets Shorthorns apart.
“Visitors to our stand can expect to meet society council members who will be happy to answer questions, share breeding advice, and discuss the latest developments in the Shorthorn world.
“We’d love to see you there – come say hello, take a look at the cattle, and don’t leave without your raffle ticket. Everyone is welcome.”
