Meat Industry Ireland (MII) director Dale Crammond has assumed the role of president of the Agricultural Science Association (ASA).
The Wicklow native succeeded Susan Maher at the ASA’s annual conference in Cork on Friday.
Crammond specialised in engineering technology during his agricultural science degree in UCD, graduating in 2000, before completing a masters in environmental science at Trinity College Dublin.
Prior to taking up his position at MII, Crammond worked for the Department of Agriculture and had spent four years with the Department of Foreign Affairs, working in the Irish Embassy in Washington DC.
“I work in a fantastic industry, an industry that produces safe, nutritious and high-quality food for consumers all over the globe, which was the central theme discussed at this year’s conference,” he said on assuming the lead role.
Collaborating
“I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders during the year ahead and promoting the critical roles played by science and innovation in the development of our great sector.”
Outgoing ASA president Susan Maher stated that serving as the agricultural science graduates’ association president had been “the honour of my career” as she wished Crammond well in the role.
“Dale, who will draw from both his family’s tillage background and his own deep well of industry expertise, will benefit from the same level of collegiality which so positively influenced my own term.”
CEO of the Agricultural Trust William Minchin will serve as ASA vice-president for 2025-2026.
