It was the Holstein champion, Mostragee Vinny Lauren, who took home the overall dairy interbreed champion prize today (15 May) at Balmoral Show, in front of a packed out ringside.
The cow, bred by Tommy and Mark Henry of Mostragee Holsteins from Stranocum, Co Antrim, was born in 2022. The Henrys are no strangers to success at Balmoral, having previously won the same award in 2024, with their cow Mostragee Bomber Louise.
Lauren is sired by Mostragee Vinnie and a daughter of Mostragee Kingboy Lauren.
Reserve champion on the day was awarded to the world-renowned Potterswalls Jersey herd in Co Down.
Potterswalls Canadian Club Dawn, bred by the Flemings, is sired by Avonlea Chips Canadian Club and a daughter of Potterswalls Jordon Dawn, and took second prize. The cow is a 2023-born second calver and was also crowned overall Jersey champion on the day.
Judge Mark Davis described the competition as fiercely competitive, with excellent examples of the dairy breeds on show.
