I farm: “With my parents Colin and Janet who I went into partnership with a few years ago. My boyfriend Daryl also has a big part to play on the farm too.”

Beef: “We buy in dairy cross weanlings, mostly Angus and Hereford, and in recent years we have gotten involved with Buitelaar Longhorn cattle too. We buy them weaned around May time and bring them right through to finish. We would finish around 150 of them every year, running in at around 300 cattle on the farm at any one time.”

Sucklers: “We keep 20 suckler cows as well, some pedigree Parthenaise and some crossbreds.”

Sheep: “We lamb a total of 100 ewes with 10 left at the moment. We have Suffolk, Charollais and Texel-cross ewes. Thankfully lambing has gone really well this year considering the bad weather.”

Tillage: “This year we have 10ac of winter wheat and 50ac of spring barley. We managed to get the spring barley sown. It was a nice, dry weekend two weeks ago so we took that opportunity with both hands. We roll the barley ourselves and feed it back to the stock, as well as producing our own straw.”

Sunflowers: “During COVID-19 we planted sunflowers for charity and we’ve decided to do it this year again, so in about four weeks they go in.”

Off-farm job: “I manage a team of sales reps for the speciality fertiliser side of Grassland Agro. I’ve been with the company for three years now.”

CrossFit: “I go to a local CrossFit gym when I can and I find it great for my mental and physical health and as a social outlet.”

Spring: “It’s the busiest time of the year for me. One of the biggest helps is having really good lambing and calving cameras to keep an eye on what’s happening.”

Succession: “One of the best decisions we made financially was to go and talk to our accountant and Teagasc advisor about going into a partnership.”
