International developer CycleØ has submitted plans for a large-scale anaerobic digestion plant at Glenloughaun, Ballinasloe, Co Galway. The facility is one of four currently in development by the company.

The plant will process around 90,000t of feedstock each year, consisting of grass silage, slurries, manure, crops and dairy residues. This will mainly be sourced from local farms. It will produce biomethane, which will be injected directly into the gas grid via a new grid connection. The facility will also generate CO2 and digestate.

The development will be located on an existing yard, which is to be demolished. Plans include two primary digesters, two post-digesters and a feedstock-reception building. A decision is due on 21 January.
