There’s a real sense of momentum building across the country as Macra continues to grow, with a mix of new and revived clubs bringing fresh energy to rural communities.

From first meetings to upcoming events, it’s clear that young people are eager to get involved, reconnect locally and make the most of what Macra has to offer.

Several new clubs have recently been established, including Cahir in south Tipperary, Blackstairs in Wexford, Cross Valley in Kilkenny, Ballina in Mayo, north Leitrim, north Longford, Ballyheigue in Kerry, south Dublin and north Louth.

These new additions are already making their mark, with Ballyheigue Macra set to host a clay pigeon shooting event on 11 April, and north Leitrim planning a table quiz as they build momentum.

Resilience

At the same time, several clubs have been successfully revived, highlighting the strength and resilience of Macra at local level.

Wicklow has seen fantastic progress with Redcross, Ashford and Ballycoog all back up and running.

Carbery Macra in Kildare has also been re-established and is already planning a table quiz on April 17.

Other revived clubs include west Clare, mid Kerry, Dunmanway (Carbery), Berrings (Muskerry) and Tullamore/Killeigh in Offaly, all bringing new life back into their communities.

Opportunities

These clubs create opportunities for young people aged 17-35 to meet, socialise, develop skills and take part in everything from competitions and training to trips and nights out.

Whether you’re interested in sport, agriculture, public speaking or simply meeting new people, there’s something for everyone at club level.

Behind every new or revived club is a dedicated group of members who have put in the effort to get things off the ground. Their work ensures that more young people can connect, build friendships and become part of a vibrant rural network.

If you’ve been thinking about joining, now is the perfect time to get involved.

With clubs growing and re-emerging right across the country, there are more opportunities than ever to find your place in Macra.
