Philip Cosgrave was installed at president of the Irish Grassland Association (IGA) at its AGM on Wednesday.

His appointment to the role came against the backdrop of his predecessor, Vincent Griffith, resigning from the post prior to the AGM.

The IGA has declined to comment on the reasoning behind Griffith’s resignation. Eamon Sheehan was appointed vice president of the association.

The IGA website states that it is a voluntary organisation, where the office manager is the only paid employee.

It is a company limited by guarantee of which company accounts show there are two directors: Alan Kelly, a past president; and Maura Callery, the office manager.

There are 24 members on the IGA council and each elected member serves a three-year term.

The president holds office for 12 months (September to end of August) and is succeeded each year by the vice-president nominated by the president, vice-president, immediate past president and office manager.
