Brittany Ferries has confirmed that its new ferry services running from Rosslare to Cherbourg will not be taking any extra calves for export.

Responding to a query from the Irish Farmers Journal, the company, based in Cork and Rosslare, said that although departures will rise from five to seven every week, the new services will only offer export services for freight and other consumers.

Stena Line is set to cease its operations on its route from Rosslare to Cherbourg from 30 September 2025 which will be then taken over by Brittany.

Current levels of services for farmers and livestock exporters will remain the same as the Contentin, operated by Brittany Ferries, will be the only ship that will take livestock along the route.

Christophe Mathieu, Brittany Ferries CEO, said, however, it will increase both capacity and frequency of sailings departing Rosslare Europort.

“News that our competitor was stepping back, started the firing pistol in a concerted effort to secure port slots and better serve customers in Ireland and France.”
