A new ferry service linking Cork and northern France, which is being operated by a company in which the Goodman family has a controlling stake, will not transport cattle or calves, the Irish Farmers Journal understands.
The new service from Ringaskiddy to Boulogne-sur-Mer is being run by the Hibernia Line.
The service is on two ships and will provide six sailings per week in each direction. It will run throughout the year.
The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the Goodman family owns a majority interest in Hibernia Line.
It is also understood that there are no ties between ABP Food Group and the new ferry business, and that there will be no involvement in the live cattle trade as part of the venture.
Boulogne-sur-Mer is around 20 minutes from Calais by road.
It is close to the Belgian border and offers routes into the low countries, eastern France and central Europe.
