People are rallying around the family of a 13-year-old girl who lost both her legs in a farming incident, raising funds to support her recovery.
Féile O’Sullivan, from Beara, west Cork, was involved in a farm incident just before her 13th birthday. She is currently in hospital in a critical condition.
Féile has undergone a double leg amputation and has severe lower abdominal injuries.
A Go Fund Me page set up for Féile said she is full of life, energy, fun and kindness. It added that farming is in her blood and she loves being outdoors in nature.
Féile has gone through multiple surgeries and will need multiple more in the coming weeks. She will also require intensive care for months, followed by rehabilitation and adjusting to a new way of life.
There are enormous financial burdens involved, from hospital stays, specialist care, physiotherapy, prosthetic limbs, home adaptions, mobility aids and more.
The funds raised will go directly support Féile’s care.
"Her entire family is heartbroken. So is her amazing community, determined to stay strong and support Féile. The emotional and financial toll is enormous.
"That’s why we’re reaching out - to ask you to support our incredible girl through her hardest times.
"Every donation - big or small - will go directly towards Féile’s care - medical treatment, specialist equipment, home adaptations, all support she’ll need now and in the years to come. Even a supportive message or sharing this page can mean the world. Féile is a true warrior. Let’s surround her with love and strength, so she gets through this incredibly impossible journey," it said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, just over €250,000 of the €360,000 fundrasing target has been reached.
