Met Éireann has issued a yellow rainfall warning for a number of counties, coinciding with a nationwide ice warning this weekend.
Cavan, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Cork and Kerry will receive heavy rainfalls from noon on Saturday until midnight.
Rain which will be heavy at times and will turn to sleet or snow, according to Met Éireann.
Strengthening winds are expected to cause difficult travel conditions and poor visibility, according to the national forecaster.
Ice
Met Éireann has warned that temperatures will drop to between -1°C and -3°C nationwide on Friday night.
It has issued a status yellow low temperatures/ice warning with sharp frost and icy conditions set to grip the country.
