The Donegal Suffolk Sheep Breeders Association has cancelled its sale in Raphoe Mart on Friday night as a result of storm Amy.
Raphoe Mart manager Anne Harkin described conditions in Donegal on Friday afternoon as "scary".
"It's very bad and I think it was the right call for public safety. It's worse than the last storm, with trees down everywhere and power outages.
"We were worried about people travelling with wee trailers and with the wind, it's too risky. It'd be ludicrous to be out in it now really," she told the Irish Farmers Journal.
Harkin explained that many businesses closed around 3pm, as well as schools and banks.
"The last storm impacted us, but it was hardly as scary as this one," she said.
Rescheduled
The Donegal Suffolk sale has been rescheduled for Friday 17 October.
Meanwhile, Headford Mart in Co Galway has also cancelled its Friday evening weanling sale due to the status orange wind warning in place for Galway.
The North West Limousin Club also took action on Friday to cancel a meeting which was due to take place Friday night.
A new date will be confirmed within the next week.
