The south Offaly village of Shinrone is hosting its annual tractor run on Sunday 29 December.

With a turnout of over 200 tractors at the event in 2023, the organising committee is expecting an even bigger attendance this year.

Registration on the day is starting at noon in Shinrone Hall at a cost of €20 per tractor.

This year's chosen charities are the north Tipperary branch of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Clonlisk National School, Little People of Ireland, St Vincent de Paul and Shinrone/Ballingarry Tidy Towns.

Entertainment

Entertainment on the day includes a bucking bronco bull, a kids' tractor driving course, an inflatable dart board and more.

Food and refreshments will be served all day.

This year's run will start at 1pm and will be visiting the highways and byways of south Offaly, breaking through numerous county boundaries, as well as visiting the newly formed monastic community of Our Lady of Silence (formerly Mount St Joseph's Abbey).

All sorts of vehicles from vintage tractors, bikes and cars to the most powerful of modern machines are welcome to join proceedings.

With last year's tractor run being the most successful to date, netting nearly €24,000, the committee's hope is to surpass that this year.

Auction

An auction is also taking place in Spain's pub in Shinrone at 7pm on the evening of the run, with up to 50 lots of top-quality goodies on offer.

These include loads of timber, turf and coal, All-Ireland hurling final tickets, agri merchandise, rugby tickets and autographed jerseys.
