It’s been an action-packed start to 2026 for Macra members across the northwest, with travel, reunions and exciting plans already setting the tone for the year ahead.

From 10-17 January 16 Macra members from Mayo, Roscommon, Cavan and Monaghan swapped wellies for ski boots as they headed to Val Thorens, France, for a week on the slopes.

For some, it was their first time skiing, with beginners taking lessons and quickly finding their feet, while more experienced skiers pushed themselves with jumps and high-speed runs.

Over the course of the week, the group skied everything from green to black slopes and even travelled by ski across to Méribel and Courchevel, soaking up some of the best views the French Alps have to offer.

Evenings were just as memorable, with plenty of good food, great company and well-earned après-ski.

A highlight for many was a visit to the 360 Bar, the highest après-ski bar in the French Alps. Thankfully, the trip finished with no injuries, although a few falls along the way provided plenty of laughs and stories to bring home.

Closer to home, Macra spirit was alive and well at the Northwest Macra Reunion, held in the Clayton Hotel, Sligo.

With 165 past and present members in attendance, the formal evening was a celebration of friendships, memories and a shared enthusiasm for Macra that clearly hasn’t faded over time. It was a brilliant reminder of the lifelong connections formed through clubs across the region.

Looking ahead, the northwest is already planning for a busy spring. A residential training weekend is in the works to support members and strengthen club activity across the region.

Leadership training is also planned for Cavan in mid-February, with details to be confirmed, and later in the spring there are plans to link up with Daniel Davey for a nutrition and wellbeing evening.

Members are encouraged to keep an eye on local and regional socials for more activities. Whether it’s travel, training or social events, there’s no shortage of opportunities to get involved with Macra in the northwest.
