Generational Renewal Week 2026 will take place from Monday 7 to Friday 11 September and will include three online webinars and two farm walks.

The programme will look at succession planning, tax, partnerships, share farming and leasing, while also highlighting career paths for young farmers.

The week will begin with a webinar titled Generational Renewal in Action: Real Farm Stories and Practical Solutions on Monday 7 September at 8pm.

Chaired by Emma-Louise Coffey, the event will hear from farm families and Teagasc specialists on their experience of the succession process.

Panellists will include drystock farmers John and Joe Atkinson and dairy farmers Lar and Lauren Kinsella.

Tuesday

On Tuesday 8 September, a webinar will focus on the Nursing Home Support Scheme, commonly known as the Fair Deal Scheme.

The webinar, chaired by Teagasc farm management specialist James McDonnell, will explain how the Fair Deal Scheme works, its implications for families and key considerations when planning for the future.

Wednesday

A dairy farm walk will take place on Wednesday 9 September on the farm on Kieran Kennedy in Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

The farm walk will showcase successful collaborative arrangements where no family farming successor was identified.

Thursday

The third webinar will take place on Thursday 10 September focusing on agricultural tax reliefs and collaborative farming approaches.

Teagasc specialists Klara McGriskin, Kevin Connolly and Ruth Fennell will discuss tax reliefs available for farm transfers, real-life case studies and collaborative farming options – and how they can support successful succession planning.

Friday

The week will finish up with a beef, sheep and tillage farm walk with the Tyner family in Shillelagh, Co Wicklow on Friday 9 September.

The Tyner family will discuss how they are bringing the next generation into the business through a registered farm partnership and succession farm partnership.

New for 2026

More than four Teagasc advisers will visit primary schools across the country to deliver sessions on Irish agriculture and encourage young people to consider opportunities in farming.

Teagasc will also run its annual Transferring the Family Farm Clinics across seven locations in October.
