Two-thirds of Irish farmers against UK inheritance tax

Two-thirds of farmers in the Republic of Ireland would not support the same changes to inheritance tax thresholds introduced in the UK being brought in here.
A further 19% of respondents to an Irish Farmers Journal> survey said they were unsure if changes to UK inheritance tax thresholds – where tax relief is capped at £1m (€1.2m) – should be introduced in Ireland. Some 15% said they would support these changes being brought in.
Tillage farmers responded most strongly against these changes, with 78% answering that they do not believe it should be introduced over here.
Sheep farmers were most likely to support the inheritance tax threshold move, with almost a quarter responding that it should be brought in here.
Geographically, Leinster farmers were most likely to oppose the move, with three-quarters against it.
Connacht farmers were most likely not to, with half against it and a quarter each unsure and in support of it.
