DEAR SIR: One of Ireland’s best-known agricultural contractors, John Salley of Cadamstown, Broadford, Co Kildare, died last week and left a legacy of great organisation, machinery skills, hard work and business acumen. John, who was 74, lost a brave battle with a serious illness. Along with wife Anna and their family, he created one of Ireland’s most successful farm contractor businesses, that celebrated 40 years in early 2019. Originally from Kilcormac, Co Offaly, the Salley family moved to Cadamstown over 65 years ago. As hundreds of farmers, friends and customers from across Ireland came to pay their respects to John at his home, tractors, harvesters and loaders stood mute in his honour. It was indeed rest after a long day’s work. To his wife Anna, daughters Audrey and Charlotte, sons Syl, Patrick, John, Michael and Martin, we extend our deepest sympathy on your great loss. MM
