Many farmers in Co Louth and surrounds have been shocked by the sudden death of their agri consultant, Shane Clarke. Over recent weeks, Shane had been completing Basic Payment Scheme applications for his clients from his bed in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Formerly with Teagasc, Shane had a large client base of farmers and had special expertise in farm buildings and environmental schemes. His loss will be widely felt.

Outside of farming, Shane Clarke was a noted breeder of German Shepherd dogs, which he traded internationally. Shane is survived by his two daughters and three sons. His wife Mary passed away two years ago. May he rest in peace. JS
