Paul started work with United Biscuits in 1967 as a management trainee. In 1995 he purchased MacKays, a small jam and marmalade factory, from United Biscuits, taking on 18 employees. They now have more than 150 people working for them with an annual turnover of £18.5m exporting MacKays and Mrs Bridges products to over 80 countries.

Paul and the company have gained many accolades including – Scotsman Entrepreneur of the Year in 2001, the MBE in 2003, Enterprising Scotland Award, International Business Award, Queens Award for Enterprise in 2004 and 2012 and in 2014 the Courier Business of the Year Award and the Courier Manufacturing Business of the Year Award.

Paul now chairs Mackays Ltd, with his son Martin taking over as managing director in 2011.
