The monthly board meeting of Ornua directors has been postponed for November, as the directors consider certain governance matters, a spokesperson for Ornua has told the Irish Farmers Journal

The meeting was due to take place on Wednesday 14 November.

The spokesperson for Ornua said: “It is the remit of the directors of Ornua to act in the best interests of the co-op, in turn protecting the interests of Irish farmers.

“The directors are currently considering certain governance matters at board level and this month’s board meeting has been postponed.”

Cheese

In October, Glanbia launched its Truly Grass Fed cheese brand into the US market, to retail on shelves beside Kerrygold products, effectively in competition with Ornua.

Last week, Pat Duffy, chair of Aurivo, asked Ornua CEO John Jordan at the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) conference how Ornua would deal with the Truly Grass Fed brand entering the US market from a corporate governance point of view.

Commercial challenge

Jordan replied: "There is a commercial challenge to Ornua, but we are confident in our strategy and the team in marketing. The issue of governance is one for the board of Ornua, which I only report to, to deal with."

Meanwhile, the ICOS dairy committee will meet on 14 November in Portlaoise for its monthly meeting.

All 15 dairy co-op chairs are on the committee and among other issues, the marketing of Irish dairy products will be on the agenda. It is understood that Truly Grass Fed will also be on the agenda.
