Over €1.5bn has been invested in the all-island Irish whiskey industry over the course of the last decade, according to a new report by industry body Drinks Ireland.

In total, €1.55bn has been invested by the whiskey industry since 2010, with the majority of this going into capital projects such as new whiskey distilleries and plant developments.

The report also shows the staggering growth in Irish whiskey exports over the last decade.

In 2010, Irish whiskey exports from the island of Ireland stood at less than €200m

Global sales of Irish whiskey have more than doubled from 60m bottles in 2010 to 144m bottles last year. And while the volume of sales has more than doubled, export figures show the value of global sales of Irish whiskey has more than quadrupled in the last decade.

In 2010, Irish whiskey exports from the island of Ireland stood at less than €200m. The value of Irish whiskey exports has since soared by over 300% and stood at €890m in 2019.

The number of operational whiskey distilleries on the island of Ireland has increased from just four in 2010 to 38 today.
