Last weekend’s Newry Show hosted the presentation of the annual Ulster provincial trophy from the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association.

The award, which is presented to the best animal in the province, was this year judged by Louis Byrne of the Tomriland herd.

He found his champion in the form of the Parke family’s Coolermoney Frances T703. Sired by Hallington Edition, Frances is no stranger to the show scene, having secured the yearling heifer and overall junior championship at Balmoral Show this year. This win marks the second time in the last three years the Coolermoney herd has secured the trophy.

The Matchett family secured the reserve overall championship with their stock bull Cheeklaw Emlyn P480. This bull is again no stranger to winning ways, having secured the overall Irish Aberdeen Angus Association all-Ireland in 2017.

Taking the second reserve spot was Hylda Mills and B Johnston of Craigavon, Co Armagh, with their senior cow, Dartrey Very Cool N112.
