Prices reported to IFA

Comment: The 4c/kg reduction in pig prices was followed through by both Stauntons and Dawn Pork and Bacon last Friday to fall in line with the rest of processors, who had initiated the price drop a week earlier. This leaves Irish pig farmers facing prices from a low of €1.60c/kg to €1.64c/kg this week, with the majority of pigs being sold at a take-home price of €1.62c/kg. Chair of the IFA pigs committee Tom Hogan called on all processors to restore stability in the sector and stop unjustified price cuts. He pointed out that Irish prices have been lagging behind our European neighbours for a number of months now and this was unacceptable. Hogan also called on all retailers to support our pig industry and offer consumers Irish produced Bord Bia Quality Assured pork and bacon.
