Comment: Chairman of the IFA Pigs Committee Pat O’Flaherty said that reports from our nearest and largest market, the UK, suggest numbers are drying up there and that the cooler weather will lead to slower growth, impacting further on supplies, while UK prices remain considerably ahead of the Irish price at €1.83/kg. Irish bacon sales year-on-year in volume terms rose by 4%, while sausage volume sales have risen by 10% over the last year ending 9 November. January to September exports are running 12% higher compared with 2013.
